Students from ISS V. Bachelet of Oggiono in Italy have launched an innovative initiative called "NAO For Gender Equality," aimed at promoting gender equality through educational robots and inclusivity.
Volta initiated the first phase of the "NAO for Gender Equality" project, conceived and proposed by attorney Monica Rosano, legal advisor and school project coordinator at the Equality Office of Lecco Province in Italy. The project combines the theme of gender equality with educational robots and has received enthusiastic support from equality consultant Marianna Ciambrone.
On April 18th, seven girls from the Bachelet Institute actively participated in the project, presenting ideas on equal opportunities in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through interactive workshops with NAO robots, an interactive space was created where participants could discuss and learn about key concepts related to gender equality.
NAO robots engaged participants in the "True or False" activity through their strong interactivity, collecting their opinions and providing explanations to encourage them to take action to reduce gender disparities in society. The humanoid robots enabled children to learn about the inspiring stories of women who have achieved great things and to reflect on the importance of breaking gender stereotypes related to sports and careers.
The project also features a series of fun activities, such as memory games and a special version of the famous board game "Who Is She!" to re-evaluate outstanding female figures. Consultant Ciambrone emphasized the importance of gender equality education from a young age to promote a more inclusive and respectful culture of differences.
The current launch of the first phase marks the first step in this educational journey, the beginning of a move towards a more equitable and inclusive society. In such a society, gender differences are no longer a reason for discrimination but can contribute to the growth and enrichment of social diversity and creativity for everyone. People of different genders can realize their potential in an environment of equality and respect, working together to promote social progress and development.
